As with previous New Year’s  Eve operations on the GE, there were a couple of services moving at the stroke of midnight. One of these was 90004 with the 22:35 Shenfield to Norwich (1p70) and had just left Ipswich (23:57) at midnight.

As with previous New Year’s  Eve operations on the GE, there were a couple of services moving at the stroke of midnight. One of these was 90008 with the 23:35 Shenfield to Norwich (1p72) and was on the approach to Chelmsford at midnight.

The key highlights for week commencing 25th December which was pretty quiet involved the storing of 90035 at Crewe joining 90029; the hiring of 90041 for the 3rd week running to Virgin which worked 1K39 and 90008/90004 moving at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Owing to the heavy winds during the night of Wednesday 5th January, 90049 suffered damage to its pantograph arm resulting in it being bent back.  The 90 was atop of 4S83 in the Shap area when the incident happened and caused a few delays behind.

Today 90045 was hired in to Virgin Trains (first one of 2012) for use on the MK3 set. The 90 in question was going to work a few services to & from Birmingham vice-Pendolino, but this was changed. She worked the usual Friday diagram instead.

The first timetabled departure at origin after midnight on New Year’s Day was 90011 which worked the 00:35 Shenfield to Norwich (1p74) having arrived at Shenfield just before midnight from Norwich on 1p73.
