During w/c 8th January 2012 a swap took place involving the hired engines to NXEA. 90026 had to go back to Crewe for maintenance. The replacement engine was 90024 which came down from Crewe on 6L48 with 90036.

90014 suffered an ETS fault at Liverpool Street prior to working a train to Norwich. This resulted in 47501 being deployed from Colchester to London to take the set ecs back to Norwich. On the approach to Colchester the 47 failed as well.

The key highlights for week commencing 1st January 2012 included 90011 working the first timetabled passenger service of the year; 90049 being rescued by 66433 at Shap due to a damaged pantograph and 90045 on hire to Virgin.

In the early hours of Thursday 12th January 90047 expired at Rugby with a technical issue which resulted in the train being rescued by 90046 which the train forward to Ipswich with 90047 DIT.

On Friday 13th January 90041 was hired to Virgin Trains for use on WB64. However, the original planned hire engine was 90047 but this suffered a technical failure the day before. In addition WB64 only worked 1K39 due to rolling stock issue.

On the morning 12th January 90048 suffered technical issues in the  Brentwood area. This resulted in 90015 being dispatched as 1Z99 which happened to be on thunderbird duties with NXEA vice-47. The 90 took 4L41 as far as Colchester.
