20/8/12 - Key highlights for week commencing 29th July 2012: This included 90043 being on hire to Virgin Trains for the Olympic Games; Greater Anglia ran several extra trains and 90019 worked a Royal Mail postal train to Scotland.

21/8/12 - Key highlights for week commencing 5th August 2012: This included the failure of 90044 at Ledburn Jcn which needed rescuing by 66420; 90043 continued to be hired to Virgin Trains & 90024 worked a Olympic relief to York.

24/8/12 - 90044 hired to Virgin Trains for use on WB64: In the early hours of the 24th August 2012, 90044 was hired to Virgin Trains from Freightliner and initially ran light engine from Crewe to Wembley depot to be attached to WB64.

25/8/12 - 90020 and 90039 work a private charter Warrington to Euston: On Saturday 25th August 90039 (outward leg) and 90020 (return leg) worked a private Rugby match charter between Warrington Bank Quay and London Euston.

25/8/12 - Key highlights for week commencing 12th August 2012: The main news item arising from this particular week was the awarding of the West Coast franchise contract to FirstGroup in addition to 90006 being on thunderbird duties.

30/8/12 - 90036 in trouble on southbound Scotrail Sleeper service: In the early hours of Thursday 30th August 90036 encountered a DSD fault in the Crewe area whilst at the helm of the Highland Sleeper 1m16 and needed rescuing.

31/8/12 - 90044 in trouble whilst on hire to Virgin Trains:  90044 encountered technical issues on the evening of Friday 31st August at Rugby whilst working the 19:03 Euston to Birmingham New Street (1G40) and was terminated Rugby.

31/8/12 - 90039 in trouble whilst working Scotrail Sleeper: 90039 suffered technical issues in the neutral section at Harrow but managed to limp to Rugby where she was declared a failure. Another class 90 went to her rescue at Rugby.
